The total of donations by RC 10 members to the Backpack Food Program in 2019-2020 was $12,984. From July 1 to November 30, 2020 the total of onations from our members was $9,844. The need, however, continues. The 2020-21 school year will be like no other! All families have been impacted by COVID 19 and many school programs are in need of community assistance.
As part of RC 10’s ongoing commitment to Social Justice, our Council will continue to participate in the Regional Foodbank’s Backpack Program. RC 10 has supported the program for two years. The program meets the needs of hungry children on weekends when other food resources are not available. The bags
are filled with nutritious food each week by school staff and discreetly distributed to participating children every Friday afternoon. The bags are returned on Monday to be refilled for the next weekend.
It costs the Regional Food Bank $183 per child to provide this service for the entire year. There are never enough funds, especially now, as so many more are dealing with the negative effects of the COVID 19 pandemic. Family and school budgets will be stretched to the limit, with some schools lacking grant money for this worthy program. No contribution is too small. Any donation amount is welcome and our combined efforts will help sustain the 2020-21 backpack program. All donors will receive a donor acknowledgement letter.
