Friday, April 29, 11 am to 12:30 pm, The Gilded Age in Troy – walking touR. Follow in the footsteps of the popular HBO series as we explore the many buildings and streets in the historic district that were used in filming Season One of The Gilded Age. Behind the scenes stories will be shared as we look at the grand buildings and streetscapes that became the backdrop for this series set in 1882. Season Two will be filming in June - get a sneak peek into possible locations!!  This tour will be led by Kathy Sheehan, Troy Historian. We will meet at the Hart-Cluett Mansion, 57 2nd Street, Troy, NY 12180 - tour to start at 11 am. Arrive early, please. An audio system will be provided by the Troy Historical Society, making it easier for people to hear, especially downtown where there are a lot of street noises. The tour covers about one square mile. If you are familiar with downtown Troy, it covers the area from Monument Square to Washington Park on Second Street. It is pretty flat, but there are uneven slate sidewalks. Both metered, free street parking, and parking garages are available throughout downtown Troy. Please see the City of Troy website for more information. This will be a popular tour for RC10 members. If you are not able to attend, please be sure to cancel; if you do not cancel, you may jeopardize your future participation in RC 10 events. TUESDAY, May 10, 2022, In-Depth Olana - Landscape and Watershed Walk aND Historic Interior Tour. This tour will immerse you in Frederic Church’s greatest masterpiece and the artful landscape designed over decades. Learn about Church’s approach to landscape as the preeminent artist for the Hudson River School and an early environmentalist advocate. (One mile of walking along gravel, dirt, and paved roads.) Explore Olana’s historic interiors and collections telling the story of Frederic Church’s leading role in America’s first art movement, as well as that of his family life and the travels that inspired Olana’s architecture. Tour starts at 10:30. Please arrive by 10:15. For your comfort, please dress appropriately for the season and weather, rain or shine. Difficulty level: Moderate - make sure to wear good walking shoes. Minimum number is 15 and maximum is 20. Cost is $35 for RC 10 fee paying members and $38 for non-members. Thursday, June 16, 2022, Mabee Farm Historical Site. The oldest farm on the Mohawk River (1705) is in Rotterdam Junction at 1100 Main Avenue. The RC 10 group will meet on the site and share a bring your own lunch at noon followed by an 80-minute tour of the buildings and gardens led by a historian. Tour cost is $10 payable in cash on the day of the tour. The group will be limited to 15. The schenectadyhistorical.org website provides more information about the site. Thursday, July 21, 2022, HUDSON RIVER CRUiSE. Travel from Albany south to Castleton on the Dutch Apple Cruise Ship. Participants will meet at the dock at 12:15; board at 12:30; the ship will leave at 1:00 and return at 3:30. The first 45 minutes will have a historian explain the history of the Hudson River. The return trip will be for relaxing and enjoying the river. The Dutch Apple web site for tickets is https://tickets.dutchapplecruises.com/#/event-details/albany-sightseeing-cruise. Tickets need to be purchased online before the trip. Adults $25, over 65 $22. The cost is higher if you buy them the day of the trip. The menu for food, wine, and beer is available on the web site.
