Set sail by small ship* through the crystal water of the Northern Adriatic Sea to medieval villages, hidden coves and the picturesque coastlines of Croatia and 3 nights in postcard-perfect Slovenia. Learn how communities of the Northern Adriatic have been linked through history as you explore ancient white-stone streets constructed by the Romans and marvel at towering mountains, picturesque lakes, and striking Venetian Gothic architecture. Understand the influence of the past as you discover ruins of ancient villages with experts and walk among the splendor of historic national parks.
Program highlights include experiencing Lake Bled, where the scenery includes a hilltop castle surrounded by the breathtaking Julian Alps, expert lectures and excursions that will teach you about the complex history of the Northern Adriatic and reveal well-preserved ruins of the Roman and Venetian empires, and an exploration of Postojna Cave as you venture underground to explore a subterranean world filled with elaborate stalagmites and stalactites.
The activity includes walking up to four miles on uneven and cobblestone terrain and climbing several flights of stairs.
The program price includes 10 nights of accommodations, 24 meals (10 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 9 dinners), 5 expert-led lectures, 16 expert-led field trips, 1 performance, group travel and transfers throughout the program, a group leader to accompany throughout the program, modest gratuities, taxes and destination fees, the Road Scholar Assurance Plan, including 24-hour assistance for medical and other emergencies.
