VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY FOR CLINTON CAMPAIGN

The upcoming election will likely prove to be one of the most important elections in our lifetime.  Member volunteer efforts are happening around the country.  NYSUT will be supporting this effort by organizing bus trips leaving from various points of New York to help AFT and NEA’s endorsed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in crucial areas.

The bus routes are as follows:

October 15th:

·       There will be one bus from Long Island that will go to Philadelphia, PA.

·       There will be one bus leaving from Syracuse, stopping in Binghamton/Vestal and going to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA.

·       There will be one bus from Buffalo going to Erie, PA.

October 22nd:

·       There will be one bus leaving at 5 a.m. from NYSUT HQ going to Manchester, NH.

All buses will arrive at their destination at approximately 9 a.m.  The number of pick-ups and the times for them are still being determined.  It is expected that there will be a few pick-up points for the LI bus and there may be a pick-up point in Jamestown, NY.

All buses, on both days, will leave the staging location at approximately 4 p.m.

Upon arrival, riders will be assigned teams and "turf" and given an orientation of the "walk area" along with a description of the voters (persuadable, base, likely, etc.).  We will not know the precise neighborhood until right before arrival as the campaigns often need to rapidly adjust strategies and these events are still weeks away.

For October 15th, all registrations will be handled through NYSUT's Regional Offices. You may register by calling the Suffolk (631-273-8822) or Nassau office (516-496-2035) (Philadelphia run), Syracuse or Vestal office (315-431-4040) (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre run), or Western NY office (716-634-7132) (Erie run).

For October 22nd, all registration will be handled by NYSUT's Meeting and Facilities Department.  Please contact Kathy Leisenfelder at (518) 213-6000 or kleisenf@nysutmail.org.

Please note that with weeks to go before these events, there is potential for slight changes in the destination.

NYSUT’s Regional Offices will be the primary point of contact for local leaders and members to learn of any updates to the plans.

Thank you!
